[anc6c04] NoMa & Near Northeast Parks Petition

Dear Neighbors,

The final vote on the DC Fiscal Year 2013 Budget is scheduled for June
5th. As you may know, while Mayor Gray proposed spending $18 million
for parks in NoMa by selling a surplus DC-owned parcel in NoMa,
Chairman Brown and the DC Council stripped all of these funds (while
still selling the NoMa public land).

If funding is restored, construction will be able to start soon on new
playgrounds, a permanent place for the summer movies, and other uses.
There is still an opportunity to get the funds restored in the budget,
or at least maintain or improve our position on the DC Council's
"priority funding list" for future funds released later this year.

There are two primary ways that you can help:
1) Email Chairman Brown, and other DC Councilmembers to express your
support for neighborhood parks in NoMa and Near Northeast. Let me
know if you need their contact information.
2) Volunteer to walk around the neighborhood this weekend collecting
signatures.

I have attached a sample petition form. If you can, please print this
out and walk it around the neighborhood (or your office) Friday or
this weekend. These signers do not need to be registered voters, or
even live in our neighborhood. Parks in our area will be used by many
visitors and area workers as well as residents.

Please return these forms to me either by email, or by dropping off at
my house (1152 4th Street NE) no later than Monday at 6 AM (ideally
earlier!). If you need printed copies, I can make these available as
well. Of course, if you'd like to make your own form, please feel
free to make any changes.

Please let me know if you can collect signatures, and where you might
be collecting them (to help avoid duplication of efforts). We have a
unique opportunity over the next few days to lobby the Council on this
issue, and this work can make a real difference.

Thank you!

This is for the fans of fibonacci

What are Fibonacci levels?

In this article we will discuss about a widespread, well-known key element of technical analysis. Why do you think technical analysis especially some elements work so well for financial markets? Why do you think Fibonacci levels are usually strictly followed? Because thousands and billions of traders and computer programs for trading use these elements. This way everybody acts the same at the same time…

This is why we decided to present in the category of technical analysis, the most used and well-known methods of predicting financial evolution. These methods are easy to understand and are very efficient.

We will discuss about Fibonacci levels. We will find out what Fibonacci levels are and how they are calculated. We will use them in our charts and we will see how they act. We will discover how useful Fibonacci levels are and, at the end, we will draw the conclusions. We will use Fibonacci levels daily in our analyzing and trading system.

[tfctoastmasters:411] May 16, 2012 TFC Toastmasters Meeting Agenda

Hello Toastmasters,
The agenda for tomorrow night's meeting is attached. We will have some information on upcoming officer elections and an extended Table Topics session, graciously hosted by Vann-Di Galloway, to practice impromptu speaking skills.

Our meeting begins at 6:45pm and is located at the AED building at 1875 Connecticut Avenue. Please try to arrive by 6:40pm to ensure that we start and end on time. If you have a role and are running late, please be sure to text me at 202-821-8074 so we can plan accordingly.

AED is located approximately 3 blocks from the Dupont Circle Metro (red line), North exit on the right. You can also take the 42 Bus heading north from Metro Center. If you need to park, there are normally metered spots in front of AED on Connecticut available, as well as some spots on T Street.  AED has two entrances (1825 & 1875) and we need to enter through the 1875 entrance. The doors will be locked, so we will meet in the lobby before the meeting.  If you come after the start of the meeting, the building guard will let you inside. Please give the guard your name and he or she will let you up to the meeting on the 12th Floor at the American Public Power Association's main conference room.

Cheers,

[NSCoderNightDC] Meeting tonight

Howdy all!

Good news: We have an NSCoder Night meeting tonight al La Madeleine in  Bethesda at 7:00 as usual.

Bad new: I can't make it tonight because I'll be celebrating my Twins' birthday (also as usual, just happens to repeat on a slower cycle.)

In other news, The organizers of CocoaConf are toying with the idea of have a special NSCoder Night meeting. The idea is to have it right after The iOS Tutorial on Thursday June 28. That would likely still be in the Crowne Plaza Dulles Airport of Herndon, Virginia. It seems to me, this would be a good opportunity to see if there is interest in restarting a Herndon-ish area NSCoder Night meeting. I often hear interest in one, but I can't start one myself (I'm already committed to the Bethesda one, and we have no intentions of moving :-) Oscar Morales was nice enough to start one, but then he got taken away by the mysterious fruit company of the west coast. So if there is any real interest in such a meeting, please reply to this message so we can figure something out.

Have fun and eat pastry in my name!

Jose

[NSCoderNightDC] Rogue Amoeba is hiring.

Heh, never thought I'd be posting a job here, much less a Windows
one... but...

http://rogueamoeba.com/company/jobs.php

So yeah, This is not a Mac or iOS job, so perhaps it's a bit off topic
Still... I can attest that Rogue Amoeba is freakishly cool place to
work for. So if you are (or you know of) an awesome C# coder, why not
apply. Are you stuck in a thankless, boring government job? Would you
like to work from home? Think about it.

Later, and sorry for the non-objective-c-ness,
Jose

[tfctoastmasters:409] May 16 Toastmasters Meeting Agenda -- open call

Hello fellow Toastmasters,
I am your Acting VP for Education for the next few months -- while Laura conquers motherhood (of a boy or girl, we're all waiting to hear)!! -- so please bear with me as I try not to drop the high bar she has set...

For the upcoming meeting on May 16, I have 3 speakers lined up (Angela Cuyler, Maureen Gibbons, and Dianne Price), a TMOE (Nils), and a General Evaluator (B.A.).  I need to confirm 3 evaluators, a timer, and a grammarian.  We should also have time for Table Topics or a Speaking Tip this meeting unless we add another speaker.
(Jan and Reeve: I seem to recall your interest in speaking/evaluating for this meeting or possibly TMOE'ing for the next meeting in June?)

Please email me offline directly at tderivi@hotmail.com if something has changed, or if you are interested in any of these roles, or if you would like to sign up for a role in June.  The timer and grammarian roles are great starts for newer members...although Nils has set an exemplary standard at Ah-counting and grammar-watching; and evaluators should have at least 3 speeches completed.  Our June meetings will be on June 6 and June 20.

Also, don't forget to get Dianne your dues so I can put you on the speaking schedule for May and June!!  And stay tuned for further announcements on TFC officer elections.
Have a great rest-of-the-week!  Or, enjoy your Costa Rican vacation for some!!

[NSCoderNightDC] Attention gentle people of NSCoder Night!

Today might actually be a rather short meeting. A number of us are planning to drive down to Tyson's Corner to watch the Avengers movie. So... I just want to warn you that there will probably be an early exodus in that direction.

Those not interested in the movie, are welcome to do the regular meeting. I'm sorry if this might put a hamper on the meeting. Next week we'll be back in force as per usual.

·         All youth can and must obtain either a college degree or industry-recognized credential.

·         Students grow by recognizing their own strengths, using them to overcome obstacles, and setting and achieving ambitious academic and career goals.

·         Disconnected youth will succeed academically and personally with the help of high-quality, culturally appropriate education and support services.

All graduates will complete a college preparatory curriculum that is aligned to Common Core State Standards and pass the GED exam.  Students will also achieve one of three outcomes before graduating:  become a Medical Assistant; become an A+ Certified Computer Hardware Technician; or complete six college credits through the Career Academy's partnership with the Community College of the District of Columbia.

The LAYC Career Academy will open in the Columbia Heights neighborhood of Washington DC in the fall of 2012 with 100 students and eleven teachers, growing to a full enrollment of 200 students and eighteen teachers in the fall of 2014.  For more information, please visit www.laycca.org.

[NSCoderNightDC] Early bird registration for CocoaConf ending soon!

Just a quick heads up.

There early bird registration for CocoaConf will end tomorrow friday (5/4). So you better act soon if you want to take advantage of this deal.

And in case you've been living under a rock, which I think would seems suspicious in this town, you can find out all about CocoaConf at their site at http://www.cocoaconf.com. But basically they are coming to town and it will be running from June 28 to the 30th, and loads of cool speakers will be there. 'nuff said.

Oh! And just because you are so cool and are in tune to this quirky little mail group, you can get an additional $50 off by using the code NSCODERS. Isn't that nifty? Think of all the pastries you can buy by using those savings! Is like an order of magnitude better than a free pastry coupon.

Hope you guys and gals can make it,
Jose

[GPBC] Hi, peach! Save the Date for May's GPBC: May 23rd

Hi lovelies!

Please save the date for this month's GPBC: Wednesday, May 23rd!  Tentative hosts with the mosts: Miss Lauren Russell & (for now!) Miss Jacqui Mooney.

Our fabulous read of the month: "The Peach Keeper"
A little sneak peak...

The New York Times bestselling author of The Girl Who Chased the Moon welcomes you to her newest locale: Walls of Water, North Carolina, where the secrets are thicker than the fog from the town's famous waterfalls, and the stuff of superstition is just as real as you want it to be.

It's the dubious distinction of thirty-year-old Willa Jackson to hail from a fine old Southern family of means that met with financial ruin generations ago. The Blue Ridge Madam—built by Willa's great-great-grandfather during Walls of Water's heyday, and once the town's grandest home—has stood for years as a lonely monument to misfortune and scandal. And Willa herself has long strived to build a life beyond the brooding Jackson family shadow. No easy task in a town shaped by years of tradition and the well-marked boundaries of the haves and have-nots.

But Willa has lately learned that an old classmate—socialite do-gooder Paxton Osgood—of the very prominent Osgood family, has restored the Blue Ridge Madam to her former glory, with plans to open a top-flight inn. Maybe, at last, the troubled past can be laid to rest while something new and wonderful rises from its ashes. But what rises instead is a skeleton, found buried beneath the property's lone peach tree, and certain to drag up dire consequences along with it.

For the bones—those of charismatic traveling salesman Tucker Devlin, who worked his dark charms on Walls of Water seventy-five years ago—are not all that lay hidden out of sight and mind. Long-kept secrets surrounding the troubling remains have also come to light, seemingly heralded by a spate of sudden strange occurrences throughout the town.

Now, thrust together in an unlikely friendship, united by a full-blooded mystery, Willa and Paxton must confront the dangerous passions and tragic betrayals that once bound their families—and uncover truths of the long-dead that have transcended time and defied the grave to touch the hearts and souls of the living.

Resonant with insight into the deep and lasting power of friendship, love, and tradition, The Peach Keeper is a portrait of the unshakable bonds that—in good times and bad, from one generation to the next—endure forever.

Counting down the days, sundrops!
