Thank you to everyone who signed petitions and sent emails to the DC Council supporting parks in our neighborhood. While funds were not put into the budget, this priority remains as one of the top items (#4) on the contingency funding list. If revenue estimates for this year come in greater than currently expected (which is typical), then some of that money is likely to go to support NoMa & Near Northeast parks. Of course, now that there will shortly be a new Council Chair, it is difficult to predict exactly how this will help our cause. Luckily Tommy Wells has certainly been working hard on this for our neighborhood.
Here's a quick update on some of the new construction and events going on in NoMa & Near Northeast.
* Our Metro station is now known as "NoMa - Gallaudet," thanks to the efforts of NoMa BID, Gallaudet, ANC 6C, CHNNA and others. There will be a ribbon cutting for the new name on Wednesday 6/13 at 10 am with members of the WMATA board, Eleanor Holmes-Norton, Mayor Gray, and others (including me).
* Archstone's new apartment building at 1st & M NE is now home to the newest NoMa residents. The building has been open for only a week, and already it's more than 10% leased. There are nearly 600 apartments, including many 2 & 3 bedroom units.
* 60 L, 300 L, 318 Eye & 2 M - all residential buildings - are out of the ground and rising fast. Meanwhile, 140 M Street NE now has half of its brick up. Combined, these buildings will have over 1,000 apartments and condo units.
* Zuppa Fresca has closed at the corner of 3rd & K NE in the Loree Grand. Hopefully they will find a new tenant soon.
* West Wing Cafe has started construction of their new restaurant at 1100 First Street NE. It will be open 7 days, until 9 pm, with sandwiches, sushi, beer, and more.
* Roti (on First Street NE between Potbelly & Tynan) is now open until 9 pm during the week, and until 5 pm on Saturdays.
* The old DC Farmers Market building will be reopening as Union Market in September, with over a dozen restaurants, bakeries, butchers, and more.
Thanks,
Tony Goodman
